Rock Wall

We have recently completed rock climbing in every class at Academy School grades K-6.  Every student that wanted to climb was encouraged to push themselves and climb to the best of their abilities.

Thanks to adult assistance we were able to get harnesses on and off safely in a timely fashion.    Without additional help, climbing would not have been possible.

Students in grades K-3 are belayed by me while their classmates encourage and support them while participating in stations.

Most climbers pushed their comfort levels and exceeded their own expectations

They loved the repelling process.

Grades 4-6 climbers had the opportunity to get more involved in the climbing process.

Some students climbed the slanted wall and others climbed the flat wall.

Some students challenged themselves by climbing blindfolded.  Another challenge  was to only use the red or green holds.

Students were responsible for team belaying each other.  Students on the belay team had to be 100% focused on the climber at all times.  They kept the line tight at all times by backing up slowly as the climber progressed.  Using their body weight to keep the climber safely suspended.

The belay team is also there to give advice and encourage the climber.

Rock climbing participants received great whole body workout.  The students built trust in each other by taking the climbing and belaying process with the upmost respect.  All of the students seemed to love the experience and will be able to see tangible improvement over the years.
